Seminar on protection & scientific preservation of Satras

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday attended a seminar on protection and scientific preservation of rich heritage of Satras at Patbausi Satra in Barpeta, which was established by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev.

The CM announced that the State government will provide a financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh for development of the museum at Patbausi Satra for scientific preservation of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev era manuscripts and other relics.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Sonowal said that the State government has taken various measures to protect the Satras and promote those as epicenters of cultural tourism. Steps are also taken to free Satra lands from encroachment.

"Following the ideals of Gurujona, our government has been working to protect and preserve the cultural, traditional, social identity and heritage of the greater Assamese society. Faster and equal development of all sections of the society across the State is our primary objective", the CM added while concluding his speech.
