SC stays Tripura HC ban on animal sacrifice

Staying the order of the High Court of Tripura, theSupreme Court has banned animal sacrifice in all temples of Tripura. The stayorder was passed by the Supreme Court on Friday.

The SC judge Justice Rohinton Nariman also asked Biplab Kumar Deb-led government to follow guidelines to prevent cruelty against animals. According to Advocate General Arun Kanti Bhowmik, the apex court stayed the ban and permitted the continuation of animal sacrifice with certain conditions.

Earlier, the Tripura High Court had banned animalsacrifice in all temples and especially under the sponsorship of the Government.The HC order triggered a major controversy, and the State Government statedthat it would move the apex court.
