SC asks Assam govt of deported, declared foreigner’s details

The Assam government has been asked to provide details of the number of people deported and declared as foreigners in the last 10 years by the Supreme Court on Monday.

The data stating the period for which the foreign inmates have been sent to detention centers in Assam has been questioned by the top court.

The Apex Court also sought details on the number of people deported after being declared as foreigners by the tribunals. A The matter has now been posted for hearing on February 19 by a  bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi and comprising Justice Sanjiv Khanna.

A PIL seeking direction to the authorities to ensure humane treatment of those detained in the detention centers in Assam was filed by Activist Harsh Mander after which the top court issued the order
