Saradha Scam: Rajeev Kumar accuses CBI of not examining Himanta Biswa

Pratidin Bureau

After Calcutta High Court extended Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar's interim protection from arrest by one week on Monday, the ex-cop told the High Court on Tuesday that CBI has not examined Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thoroughly, although his name came up in the Saradha chitfund scam case.

Kumar's counsel Milan Mukherjee submitted before Justice Madhumati Mitra that Himanta Biswa has not been examined by the CBI despite his name coming up in the probe by the SIT when the scam was unearthed in 2013.

Further, Mukherjee also accused the CBI of malafide intention to malign his client by only choosing him for questioning among the 121 officers of the SIT.

At the time when the scam came into light, Rajeev Kumar was the commissioner of Bidhannagar Police who looked after the daily operations of the SIT.
