Rebati Phukan as General Secretary a lie, says ULFA (I)

Pratidin Bureau

United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) has refuted the news of Rebati Phukan's appointment as the General Secretary of the organisation.

In an email to Pratidin Time, the extremist organisation said that no one has been appointed to the post of general secretary. People are being misleaded with rumours, added the mail.

Rumel Asom, a member of the outfit's publicity wing, condemning the spread in the email has urged the government to take all necessary measures seeking Phukan's whereabouts.

Earlier, a newspaper report claimed that Rebati Phukan has been appointed as the permanent General Secretary of ULFA (I) and as per the outfit's norms, Phukan has taken an organisational name as Jyotisman Asom alias RP alias Agni.

Rebati Phukan, who has been working as a mediator between the Centre and ULFA had been missing since April 22.
