Random Tests Postponed Due to Insufficient Lab Technician

The Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu on Tuesday said that the random tests of the police personnel, health workers, members and officials of the administration, truck drivers, petrol pump workers, and the common public will be started from Wednesday.

The random tests which were about to start from Tuesday have been postponed to Wednesday due to the non-availability of sufficient numbers of laboratory technician. According to the health department, more numbers of technicians will be hired from outside the state and they will be trained for the random tests to be done from tomorrow.

Briefing the media, DC Biswajit Pegu said that keeping in view therising cases of COVID-19 in the state, the government has decided to conductthe random tests. It has also been suspected by the health department that the infectionis spreading from the truck drivers during the loading and unloading ofcommodities, said Pegu.

He also stated that there are 80 active containment zones in Guwahatiand as the people in and around are vulnerable the tests will be conducted in12 places in the city.

The DC further informed that areas like Santipur, Bishnupur, Athgaon, etc are more vulnerable to COVID-19 adding that the administration has identified 46 parking places and 157 warehouse and godowns for swab tests.
