PHE Minister Initiates Probe into Hand-Pump Scandal

Pratidin Bureau

Minister of Public Health Engineering (PHE), Food and Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Rihon Daimary has finally accepted the corruption charges against his PHE department concerning the Hand-pump distribution in the state.

It may be mentioned that the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department had installed huge numbers of hand pumps in the flood-affected areas of the state.

But, the water released by hand pumps in Barpeta, Majuli, and Jorhat is dark and muddy which looks completely unsuitable for drinking or for any other daily use.

Meanwhile, protesting flood victims took to the streetsdemanding accountability from authorities over the issue.

Minister Daimary on Monday took the issue seriously and askedPHE senior officials to look into the matter and formed a high-level committeeunder the aegis of district commissioners.
