Assam: Paid Holiday Declared For Poll-Bound Constituencies On Oct 30

Assam Government has declared October 30 as paid holiday in all factories, business establishments, shops etc in poll-bound constituencies of the state.

According to an official notification, paid holiday has been declared for "all factories, plantations (including tea plantations), shops & commercial establishments, establishment for public entertainment or amusements, contractor establishments, firms, and such other industries/workshops commercial & business establishments and banking institutions etc" within the jurisdiction of Gossaigaon, Bhabanipur Tamulpur, Mariani and Thowra to enable the workers/employees to cast votes.

A total of 7,96,456 voters are eligible to exercise their right to franchise in the upcoming by-elections to five assembly seats in Assam.

Nearly 8 lakh voters will decide the fate of 31 candidates on October 30.

Of the total electorate, 4,03,374 are males, 3,93,078 females and four are transgender. There are a total of 3,165 service voters, while 8,864 electors are aged above 80 and 4,998 are People with Disability (PwD).

The counting of votes will be taken up on November 2 and the entire polling process will be over by November 5.
