Onion prices rise in Guwahati

The pricesof onion have jumped by up to 50 percent to 70 percent in the last one month indifferent markets in Guwahati. According to reports, onion is currently tradingat Rs. 50 per kg to Rs. 55 per kg compared to Rs. 35 one month ago.

Guwahati'sFancy Bazar, Kacharighat, Uzanbazar, Beltola, Six Mile market among others werefound with high onion prices. However, Minister of Food & Civil SuppliesPhani Bhusan Choudhury wasnot seen taking any measures regarding the development.

"Arrivals of early-season crops are low this year from Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, due to flood there. Also, Kharif crop is reported to have severely damaged in States like Maharashtra and Gujarat. All these factors are contributing to the current price rise," said an onion wholesaler in Guwahati.

Thisrising price of onion has become a serious matter of concern for the residentsof Guwahati.
