Assam Minister of Food & Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Phani Bhusan Choudhury visited the Beltola market to take stock of the hike in onion price and said that the price has raised due to low production.

The prices of onion have jumped by up to 50 to 70 percent in the last one month in different markets in Guwahati. According to reports, onion is currently trading at Rs. 60 per kg to Rs. 65 per kg compared to Rs. 35 a month ago. The hike in the price of onion has suddenly jumped from Rs. 20 to Rs. 60 for which the consumers are now in a dilemma.

The food and civil supplies department seem to be unaware of this sudden hike in price but suddenly the minister makes a visit to the Beltola market to take stock of the situation. There has been an operation in the market and the minister also asked the traders to make a list of the prices of vegetables but all went in vain. Moreover, the traders when asked about the price of onions by consumers tell less price in front of the media and the minister for which there has been an argument between the consumers and the traders.
