NRC: Sonowal Urges People To Maintain Peace on Aug 31

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal urged the people to maintain peace and harmony on the day of the publication of final National Register of Citizens' (NRC) on August 31.

In a meetingheld on Friday at Administrative Staff College of the home ministry withDirector General of Police (DGP), Superintendent of Police (SP), DCs of alldistricts and Commissioner of Police, Sonowal instructed the SPs to take sternaction against those who will make communal comments on NRC.

The meeting has been called by the home ministry in order to discuss the measures that need to be taken on the day of the publication of NRC to keep the situation calm and peaceful.

Speaking atthe meeting, DGP Kuladhar Saikia said that they will keep a close watch on thesocial media so that no untoward incident could happen and if anyone would postany irrelevant post against NRC legal action will be taken against them.

Meanwhile,the state government has deployed additional central paramilitary force inAssam and that if necessary more force will be deployed on the day ofpublication of NRC so that no untoward incident could take place.
