The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has come upwith a new solution to shift the dumping ground located near Deepor Beel to anew location. Following the order of NGT the GMC has decided to shift thedumping ground from present location to Chandrapur area.

However, it would not be known as dumping ground, rather the government will build a Solid Waste Extraction Project in Chandrapur. The project will be ready within 3 years, informed GMC authorities.

It may be mentioned here that severalenvironmentalists as well as civil bodies have been urging the government toshift the dumping ground from Pachim Boragaon alleging that the garbagedisposed of at Pachim Boragaon has been polluting and intoxicating the water atDeepor Beel, which is one of the recognized wetlands for undertakingconservation measures on the basis of its biological and environmentalimportance.
