It might have been just another celebration of a birthday with family, friends and wellwishers for Assam's former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi as he celebrated this special day with the senior citizens of Mother old age home (Hatigaon) in the city.

Assam's former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today turned 85; political leaders along with well-wishers greet Gogoi on his 85th Birthday at his residence at Cabinet Colony in Dispur on Friday.

Gogoi was born on 11 October 1936 into an ethnic Assamese Tai-Ahom family at Rangajan Tea Estate, erstwhile Sivasagar District, now the Jorhat District of Assam.

Gogoi was elected Chief Minister of Assam in 2001 after he led the Indian National Congress to victory in the state elections. He has since led the party to a record three consecutive electoral victories in the state as Chief Minister.
