Mixed bandh reactions in Assam

The Bandh has effected several parts of Assam on Saturday.  The 24 hours Assam Bandh called by the Assam Bengali Youth Students' Federation (AABYSF) has seen a mixed reaction in various parts of the state.

Several areas witnessed violence spark between supporters of the bandh and those in opposition.

In Jogighopa, not abiding by the bandh several weekly markets had opened for business and also attacked the bandh supporters with sharp equipment. The situation came under control only when Police had reached the spot.

Hojai was most affected by the bandh with no commercial establishments open and no vehicles plying on the road. There was also burning of tyres to protest against the Dhola brutal killings. Roads had also been blocked. Hojai police has detained 30 bandh supporters.

17 protestors were also detained in Dalgaon. These supporters of the bandh had hindered normal functioning of traffic.

It may be noted that the 12 hour Tinisukia  bandh by AABYSF has been called off and also the Moran unit of the organisation has withdrawn its support from the Bandh.
