Midday Meal Workers Demand Withdrawal of Privatization

The subordinate workers under the Midday meal scheme have staged protest in front of Sarba Siksha Abhiyan office at Kahilipara demanding cancellation of the privatization of the scheme of midday meal.

According to an order signed by the Primary Teachers Commission, it was decided on December 24, 2018, to hand over the midday meal to 15 NGOs.

The decision of the government has put 1lakh 18thousand workers in dilemma and therefore, the workers staged protest demanding the immediate cancellation of the privatization of midday meal scheme.

Moreover, the communication in the Ganeshguri-Kahilipara connectingroad has been interrupted due to the protest.

It may be mentioned that the Central Government has started the middaymeal scheme in 1995 but in Assam, it has come into effect from 2005.

The workers said that till 2009 they had worked without salary and from2009 they received an amount of Rs. 1000 per month. They have also demanded toincrease the salary to the government many times but the government has not yetincreased their salary.
