Manipur University row continues, Government desperate to oust VC

Pratidin Bureau

The Manipur University row continues threatening to snowball into the first major conflict for the Chief Minister N Biren Singh even if he tries to see the back of the controversial VC through a fact finding team.

Speaking to media persons, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the State Government fully empathises with the Manipuri University community.

He said that as per the wish of the Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA), Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) and Manipur University Staff Association (MUSA), the State government persuaded the Central Government to form a Committee headed by a retired Chief Justice of a High Court to investigate the allegations against the Vice-Chancellor AP Pandey.

If Pandey is found to be guilty in the investigation, then he will be ousted automatically, he added.

Meanwhile Chief Minister N.Biren Singh on Friday, visited the injured students including student leader Shital Oinam whose left hand got fractured after a truck ran over his hand during a scuffle between the students and police last Monday who are undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity, Imphal. A police officer had also been suspended.
