Locals Rescue 80 Dogs in Golaghat From Being Smuggled

With thecattle smuggling in the state, dog smuggling has also become one of the most illegalbusiness and in a recent incident, a vehicle carrying 80 dogs have been rescuedby local people at Borpathar in Golaghat district.

The trend ofdog smuggling is rising in the state as police don't take any action againstthe smugglers. On Sunday, a TATA Ace vehicle number AS 03 BC 7211 was carrying80 numbers of dogs from Dergaon to Dimapur when some local people have rescuedthe dog carrying vehicle.

The localsof the area have noticed the incident when the vehicle hit a youth after whichthe people gheraoed the vehicle and noticed that five persons were carrying thedogs from Dergaon. However, four persons have absconded from the spot after thelocals attacked the smugglers.

The localsinformed the Borpathar police who apprehended one of the dog smugglers DebNarayan along with the dogs.

While speakingto PratidinTime, one of the locals said, "The dog smuggling take place dailyand many dogs are being smuggled to Nagaland but police don't take any actionagainst these smugglers. The police are aware of such incidents but they gotmanaged with the smugglers in exchange of money."
