Last rites of Tabu Taid to be performed today

Thelast rites of eminent educationalist, linguist, writer, and administrator TabuRam Taid will be performed with full state honours today. The last rites willbe performed at Gogamukh, his native place. The Mising Autonomous Council hasselected the land for performing the last rites.

Taidpassed away at Apollo Hospitals in Guwahati on Saturday morning at the age of77. He left behind his wife, a daughter and a son. His mortal remains will beairlifted to Ghunasuti village from Guwahati at around 10 AM and his relativesinformed that the last rites will be performed after 3 PM in Gogamukh.

Apartfrom the first dictionary in the Mising language, Taid's other works includethree research papers on the Mising language published in the reputedinternational journal Linguistics of the Tibeto-Burman Area, University ofCalifornia, Berkeley, USA. Taid also wrote the script for Dr Bhupen Hazarika'stele-film Miri Jiyori.
