KIYG: Maharashtra retain title

Team Maharashtrawas adjudged as the champion team with 256 medals, including 78 golds in the thirdedition of the Khelo India Youth Games in Guwahati. After 13 days ofcompetition, Haryana came second with 200 medals (68 gold, 60 silver, 72bronze), followed by Delhi at third with 122 medals (39 gold, 36 silver, 47bronze). Host Assam secured the 7th position with 76 medals (20 gold, 22 silverand 34 bronze).

Speakingat the closing ceremony of the KIYG on Wednesday evening, Assam CM SarbanandaSonowal said, "The success of the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games reaffirmed oncemore Guwahati's dream of becoming the Sports Capital of India. I thank thepeople of the city, officials, volunteers for their huge hospitality andsecurity forces for their support."

Duringceremony, Assam showcased its rich cultural heritage in a crisp and beautifulshow, led by a Modern Creative Dance performance by Aimee Baruah.The eveningwas topped up by a live concert by Bollywood singing star Shaan.

Itmay be mentioned here that around 6,800 athletes from 37 States and Union Territoriescompeted across 20 sports disciplines in Khelo India Youth Games, which beganon January 10.
