Pratidin Bureau

In case you are planning to join in the picnic parties on the bank of Brahmaputra River, you won't be able to join the picnics, as the district administration has banned it. The decision was taken to prevent accidents which usually happen during the picnic season, an official said.

The district administration of Kamrup Metro has prohibited, with immediate effect, amusement activities like picnics at all locations along the Brahmaputra riverbank in the entire district till the picnic season is over.

Kamrup Metro DC Virendra Mittal directed all the Police stations and outposts along with the circle officers to restrict picnicking on the Brahmaputra riverbank.

The order also stated that at picnic spots other than the riverbank, all picnic activities must be completed strictly by 4 pm.

Rollicking and frolicking to the accompaniment of high decibel music systems committing sonic violence has been prohibited. The littering of the picnic spots with polythene, plastic left-over food stuff is not allowed.

Whereas, It has been observed that large gatherings of picnickers along the river Brahmaputra in different places of the district in the winter season use non-biodegradable items made of plastic, etc, which later make their way into the water and pollute the same, posing a threat to the aquatic flora and fauna and the entire aquatic ecosystem.
