Judicial Probe Into APSC Scam Ordered

TheGauhati High Court (GHC) on Friday ordered a judicial inquiry into themulti-crore cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public ServiceCommission (APSC). The GHC further ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) to conduct an inquiry against Rakesh Paul, the then Chairman of APSC.

Hearing a plea by Okram Prashant Singh the GHC orderedthe government of Assam to constitute an inquiry committee regarding the APSCscam within a month. The Assam government is yet to implement a 2015 GHC orderto constitute a judicial commission to investigate anomalies in conducting therecruitment examination by the APSC.

It may be mentioned here that there has been severe allegation of corruptions against Paul and protests rocked the entire State for several times in the past demanding for an impartial probe into the allegations of corruptions by Paul.

The CBI has already conducted the preliminary investigation against Rakesh Paul and submitted a report to the court. Following the submission of the report, the GHC on Friday ordered the CBI to conduct its regular inquiry against Paul regarding the alleged corruption charges and the alleged disproportionate assets held by him.
