JPC submits draft report today

Chairman Rajendra Agarwal submitted the draft of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC)'s report on Citizenship Amendment Bill on Thursday. The final report will be submitted to the House on January 07.

It may be noted that no member of the Opposition submitted a dissenting note, however, the deadline to submit one is set to Friday till 3 PM.

According to reports, three members of the Congress party 'walked out' of the meeting.

Congress member Bhubaneshwar Kalita claimed that the Chairman did not have any consultation before finalizing the draft report.

As there were no changes made to the amendment proposal, there was no requirement to take verbal votes.

Eight members from the ruling party and Sushmita Dev, Pradip Bhattacharjee, Adhir Ranjan Chakrabarty, B Mehtab and Mohammed Selim from the Opposition were present at the meeting.
