Pratidin Bureau

Ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections, Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani on Saturday criticized Narendra Modi led BJP government as well as the RSS in Guwahati. Taking part at the National Youth Conclave organised by Axom Nagarik Samaj at Pragjyoti Cultural Complex in Guwahati, Mevani said, "I am not a Chowkidar, but I am Jignesh Mevani and a service provider to the public."

Attacking the RSS, the MLA said, "The RSS shouts slogans like Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai, but they have no contribution to the freedom movement of the country." "The Centre has spent Rs. 3,000 crore to install the statue of Sardar Patel, but have not paid monthly salaries to the workers employed at the Statue of Unity and compelled them to go on strike. Also several hospitals in Gujarat do not have basic MRI, CT-Scan machines," Mevani said.

Speaking on the occasion, another youth leader, N Sai Balaji also took a dig at RSS and said, "The organisation has embraced the ideologies of Mussolini and Hitler." He also slammed Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for latter's remarks regarding Jinnah. Criticizing the government for sedition charges against Dr. Hiren Gohain, Balaji said, "As Gohain has opposed the CAB, the police registered cases of sedition against Gohain and others."

Apart from Mevani and Balaji, KMSS chief Akhil Gogoi, AJYCP leader Palash Changmai and various others also spoke on the programme.
