Jagiroad paper mill employees stages protest

Theemployees union of Nowgong paper mill in Jagiroad have staged protest against theorder of liquidation of the paper mills under Hindustan Paper CorporationLimited in Assam by the National Company Law Tribunal.

Protestingoutside the paper mill, the employees said that they demanded revival of thepaper mill and opposed the liquidation of the two paper mills of Nowgong andCachar which was non-functional since March 2017 and October 2015 respectively.The employees demanded immediate revival of the paper mill in Nowgong or elsethe government should release the pending salaries of the employees.

Theemployees, however, said that the government intentionally dealt with theprocess in such a manner that the matter reached the court and the industrialunits go under the control of private parties. The employees union alsothreatened the government that the situation will worsen if the paper mill willbe handed over to the private parties.
