Insurance scam: HC asks DGP to take special measures

In a recent development in the Rs. 500 crore insurancescam case in the State, the Gauhati High Court on Wednesday asked the DirectorGeneral of Police (DGP) to take special measures in the investigation.

The High Court asked the DGP to appoint an ADGP to investigate the scam. The High Court was hearing a PIL filed by Jitul Deka, Secretary-General of Asomiya Juva Mancha.

TheHigh Court further asked the applicant to file documents related to the scam tothe SPs of concerned districts. The SP after verifying the documents wouldlodge case regarding the scam and inform the ADGP regarding the development.

InSeptember last year, five doctors were detained by the Barpeta police inconnection with the sensational scam. One of the detained doctors allegedlydeclared a person named Moinuddin Amhed dead on Aug 4th 2016 and claimed insurance.
