If needed, will destroy Assam assembly: Sushmita Dev

In a controversial remark, Congress MP from Silchar, Sushmita Dev on Wednesday said that she would destroy the Assam Assembly building, if any citizens were left out of ongoing National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Addressing a gathering at Nilambazar area under Karimganj South assembly constituency, the MP said, "If any Indian citizens were left out of the NRC, we will took to the street, and if needed, we will destroy the assembly in pieces." She even said that she would oppose it in the Lok Sabha.

Dev also referred the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 as Centre's conspiracy and said that the government should provide citizenship to all regardless of religion or class. She even said, "If Modi government's CAB passes in the Lok Sabha, people of Barak would have to show documents of Bangladesh."
