HPCL employees protest, block Highway

Employees of Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited (HPCL) have launched a four hour National Highway blockade as a protest demanding revival of Nagaon Paper Mill and Cachar Paper Mill along with the payment of their due salaries.

Paper Corporation Employees Union and employees of both the paper mills have taken to the streets of Jagiroad.

It may be noted that the police had geared themselves up for any untoward situation even before the agitation started.

The situation during the protest has reportedly become violent with paramilitary and police forces on the ground to control the situation. Protestors, those trying to elevate the agitation, have been dragged out from the spot.

Agitators have alleged that even after deaths of many employees and several protests, strikes HPCL has done nothing to pay what they deserve.

The employees have also expressed grief describing their misery and difficulties they are going through being deprived of their salaries.

The protestors have also claimed that government has also ignored them.
