Himanta Announces New Education Policy Norms

The Assam Government will form a 40 member committee in order to implement the New Education Policy, said State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday.

The minister said that the committee will be formed within 7 days and a will compose a blueprint by January. "The New Education Policy will reform the education system. The committee will be formed to monitor the new policy to be implemented in the state as well," said the minister while addressing a press conference at Janata Bhawan today.

The minister further stated that the government will also introduce Science stream in 16 colleges in the state and 320 posts will be open for these colleges adding that the advertisement will be published within 7 days.

He further stated that schools, colleges will be provincialized from August 15 and it will come into effect from January 1, 2021. 9 Higher Secondary, 197 High School and 149 Junior Colleges will be provincialized, the minister said adding that a total of 3359 posts will be provincialized in these schools.

The Minister further reiterated that 241 posts of lecturer will be provincialized in 30 new colleges and the government will provincialize 690 old posts of lecturers.

He also said the government will also set up high schools in 119 tea gardens and each school will have the expense of Rs. 1crore 19 lakhs. The construction work of all the schools will be started from October 2.

Reiterating about reopening of schools in the state, the Minister said that the government is thinking to resume the schools from September 1 and all the teachers and fourth grade employees of the schools will have to undergo compulsory COVID-19 tests.

However, the classes till Class IV shall remain closed.  

The students of Classes 5,6 and 7 will have classes under open sky which will be applicable for private schools as well.

The minister informed that Class IX and XI will have their classes in school and it will be conducted for two days a week and 15 students will be able to attend the classes.

Class X and XII students will have four days of classes in a week and it will be held for three hours.
