Highest COVID-19 Tests Conducted on Monday: GMCH Principal

Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Principal Dr. Achyut Chandra Baishya on Monday said that the highest testing of COVID-19 has been conducted on Monday with 1 lakh 28 thousand tests.

The positivity rate has come down to 3.06 percent. 318 persons have tested positive for the COVID-19 in Kamrup (Metro) yesterday.

Dr. Baishya informed that currently, a total of 496 patients are under treatment at GMCH. "Guwahati has witnessed less than 500 cases after many days which is a relief. This is a good sign as the positivity rate has come down," Dr. Baishya added.

He further stated that 2000 ICU beds are vacant at present  and more than 300 beds are vacant in GMCH.

The principal further informed that artist Neelpaban Baruah is now stable and the nurses are taking proper care of him.

It may be mentioned that most of the patients have died post-COVID complications.

Assam on Monday reported 3,804 fresh cases of the deadly contagion – coronavirus with a positivity rate of 3.06 percent.

The active caseload of the state is 48,672. 37 deaths have been reported, while, 4,613 cured patients were discharged.

The districts that have reported the highest cases are Karmup Metro (318), Tinsukia (315), Cachar (311), and Dibrugarh (281). 1,24,316 Covid-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.

The deaths have been registered from Cachar (4), Dibrugarh (4), Jorhat (4), Hojai (3), Morigaon (3), Bongaigaon (2), Kamrup Metro (2), Kokrajhar (2), Lakhimpur (2),  Sonitpur (2), Baksa (1), Kamrup Rural (1), Charaideo (1), Darrang (1), Golaghat (1), Tinsukia (1), and Sivasagar (1).

The total deaths have climbed to 3,695 with a death rate of 0.84 per cent, while, the total recoveries of the state has touched 3,85,032 with a recovery rate of 87.76 per cent.

The overall count of the state is 4,38,746.
