Hailakandi: 9-day old tests positive for COVID-19

A nine-day-old baby has been infected with COVID-19 in Hailakandi, the youngest in the state to have detected with the virus. Health officials said that the baby girl along with her mother has been admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for treatment.

The baby was born to Nazma Sultana of Bakrihower area in the district at home. However, the mother tested negative of the virus.

Earlier, a 18-day-old baby was also tested positive for the virus in the district.

The Hailakandi district administration conducted random rapid antigen tests in different locations at Hailakandi town on Friday, following the detection of positive cases with no travel histories.

Altogether, 60 new COVID-19 cases were reported from the Barak Valley district, taking the tally to 970.
