Govt. of India Sanctions 25 E-Buses for Silchar

The Government of India has approved 25 numbers of electric buses in Silchar under its FAME India Scheme- Phase 2 to improve the road connectivity.

The departmentof Heavy Industries & Public Enterprise under Government of India hassanctioned 5595 electric buses to 64 cities for intra and intercity operationsin order to push for clean mobility in public transportation.

Out of the5595 buses, Assam will get 100 buses which will be distributed betweenGuwahati, Jorhat and Silchar with 50, 25 and 25 numbers of buses respectivelyfor each town.

According toa press release issued by the Department of Heavy Industries, 86 proposals from26 States & Union Territories were received for the deployment of 14988e-buses. After receiving the proposal, the government sanctioned 5095 electricbuses to 64 cities/State Transport Corporations for intra-city operation afterevaluating of the proposals as per EoI. 400 electric buses for intercityoperation and 100 electric buses for last mile connectivity to Delhi RailCorporation have also been sanctioned.

The releasealso stated that each selected city is now required to initiate the procurementprocess in a time-bound manner for the deployment of sanctioned electric buseson an operational cost basis.
