Former CM P.K Mahanta, ULFA leader Anup Chetia leads mass protest against Citizenship Bill

Opposition for the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 is growing across Assam and protests/strikes are increasing by the number each day. On Wednesday, Guwahati witnessed the same.

Under the Assam Andolan Sangrami Manch, a massive protest rally was carried out in Guwahati by the name 'Rajbhawan Yatra' to oppose the Citizenship Bill.

Former CM and AGP leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, who is part of the coalition BJP government in Assam, led the rally. ULFA leader Anup Chetia also took part in the protest rally standing alongside Mahanta. A number of other prominent personalities and AGP leaders also participated.

During the rally P.K Mahanta said, "The Citizenship bill is against the Assam accord and will increase the number of already populated state of ours. So I inform the Central government that according to the accord, no illegal foreigners coming after 1971 can stay in Assam."
