To promote unity and integrity among the different ethnic groups of Assam as well as to form a platform to take up several issues concerning the indigenous communities, the newly-formed Janagosthiya Samanwayrakshi Samity has called for a meeting of ethnic groups at Karbi Bhawan in Guwahati's Six Mile on December 16.
The newly formed organisation also plans to bring representatives of ethnic groups on one platform to share creative ideas for the upliftment of different communities, especially the marginalised groups and form a full-fledged committee with representatives from each ethnic group of the State.
The main objective of the committee is to protect the language, culture and unique identity of every ethnic community and tribe.
It has also resolved to chronologically compile information regarding the kings and queens, legendary men and women, warriors, prominent community leaders, intellectuals, etc., of each community and publish it in the form of a book.
The Janagosthiya Samanwayrakshi Samity with Arunjyoti Moran and Prafulla Hafila as coordinators was formed in 2017 during the 70th death anniversary of freedom fighter 'Jananeta' Bhimbor Deori.
"During a representatives' meet, it was decided that the committee would be expanded soon with representatives of every tribe and ethnic group. One person in every district will be made coordinator of the committee to ensure representation of all sections of people," said Arunjyoti Moran.
"It is important to protect and promote the uniqueness of different communities of Assam, and also promote research work on different tribes and small ethnic groups. Through this forum, we are also planning to publish a research-based book on the life of Bhimbor Deori," Moran added.
The Samity has asked representatives of different ethnic groups to take part in the meet to ensure that no group is left out.
