‘Dry day’ declared on polling, counting days

Pratidin Bureau

The Assam Government banned the sale and serving liquor on polling days and the final 48 hours before completion of counting as per a directive of the election commission.

All Bonded Warehouses, IMFL Retail Shops including Club, Hotel and Country Spirit Shops will remain closed during the Dry Days. Further, during this period the storage of liquor by individual shall be curtailed.

Steps will also be taken to prohibit sale of liquor in adjoining areas of the concerned Constituencies so that there are no chances of clandestine movement of liquor from those areas where the restriction has not been in operation.

Any violation of the order shall be dealt with under the relevant provision of Assam Excise Act and Rules to respective Constituencies.
