The last rites of 'Nightingle of Assam' Dipali Borthakur will take place today at Navagraha Crematorium in Chenikuthi, Guwahati here.

The eminent personality will be accorded a state funeral – as per reports.

Her body would be taken to All India Radio (Akashvani) Guwahati, Rabindra Bhawan, Assam Sahitya Sabha head office and AASU head office.

The funeral procession would leave the residence of Dipali Borthakur at 11 am.

Dipali Borthakur passed away at Nemcare Hospital here this afternoon at the age of 77 due to respiratory problems.

Born in Sivasagar's Sonari, Borthakur, known as the 'Nightingle of Assam', had been suffering from a severe Motor neuron disease, which hindered her singing.

Dipali Barthakur has been honored many times, most notably with the Padma Shri award for folk and traditional music in 1990-92.
