At least 23 inmates of Dhubri district jail have tested positive for COVID-19. The infected inmates have been kept under isolation at the jail premises itself, sources said.
According to reports, the other inmates will also undergo tests soon.
Meanwhile, Dhubri district in Assam, on Wednesday, recorded 109 new COVID-19 cases, taking the district's total cases tally up to 4760.
There are currently 1247 active cases in the district.
On the other hand, one more person died due to COVID-19 on Wednesday, taking the districts death toll up to 51 in second wave of the pandemic.
The district has so far has recorded as many as 3462 recoveries.
It may be stated that Assam on Wednesday reported 3,751 new cases of coronavirus, taking the active cases to 48,499 with a positivity rate of 3.24 per cent.
The overall tally of the state is 4,46,445.
Further, 55 deaths were recorded today, while, 4,355 cases were discharged.
The districts with the highest cases are: Kamrup Metro (430), Cachar (366), Sonitpur (231), and Dibrugarh (222). The new cases were detected out of the 1,15,806 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
The total recoveries in the state has touched 3,92,896 with a recovery rate of 87.99 per cent, while the death tally has climbed to 3,793.
The district-wise deaths registered today are: Dibrugarh (7), Sonitpur (5) Dhubri (4), Jorhat (4), Kamrup Metro (4), Cachar (3), Golaghat (3), Hojai (3), Karimganj (3), Sivasagar (3), Tinsukia (3), Kokrajhar (2), Barpeta (1), Charaideo (1), Chirang (1), Darrang (1), Dhemaji (1), Dima Hasao (1), Goalpara (1), Hailakandi (1), Kamrup Rural (1), Morigaon (1), and Udalguri (1).
