CWC discusses Assam NRC draft, unemployment, Rafale deal and other important agendas

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) today discussed draft of National Register of Citizen (NRC) in Assam, unemployment, agriculture and economic situation.

Briefing media after the meeting, party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, the CWC was of the view that every Indian should be given an opportunity to prove their citizenship in final NRC.

The party also sought to know the price of Rafale jets.  Surjewala said there have been no jobs in the country for youth. The CWC has expressed concern over the recent bank frauds and maintained that government must take strictest action against economic offenders, he added.

The other main agendas also included the Maratha reservation stir and Muzaffarpur shelter home sex scandal among several other political issues.

Party President Rahul Gandhi chaired the meeting. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Ghulam Nabi Azad are among the senior leaders who attended the meeting.

At the meet, it was decided that Congress president Rahul Gandhi will meet 51 Maratha leaders in Delhi on 8 August. The development comes days after the Maratha quota agitation that rocked several parts of Maharashtra.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh briefed the CWC on the economic conditions of the country.

CWC is the party's highest decision-making body and assists the Party President in decision-making.
