Chandrapur: 12-hour Bandh In Protest Against GMC

The locals of Chandrapur along with different parties and organizations have called for a 12-hour bandh in the area on Wednesday from 5 AM to 5 PM in protest against GMC who have decided to shift the Boragaon dumping ground to Chandrapur.

Thecommunication has been interrupted in the area and business establishments havebeen closed down from Birkuchi to Govardhan market.

It may be mentioned that the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has decided to shift the dumping ground of Boragaon to Chandrapur. Following the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the GMC has decided to shift the dumping ground from the present location to the Chandrapur area.

However,it would not be known as dumping ground, rather the government will build aSolid Waste Extraction Project in Chandrapur. The project will be ready within3 years, informed GMC authorities.
