Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced on Sunday that the central government has given its nod for the construction of a four-lane highway along the Indo-Bhutan border.

Sonowal made the announcement at the Annual State Convention at Nikashi, saying that the construction of the 264 km long highway in full speed after getting clearance from the Ministry of Forest and Environment. The highway will also encompass four district of the state.

"The new connectivity would bring in revolutionary changes not only in connectivity, but also in trade and commerce of the areas," CM Sonowal said.

Sonowal also added that the Assam government is playing the role of a catalyst to the central government and is assisting their efforts in developing the infrastructure along the border areas.

Meanwhile, speaking on the issue of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) at the convention, the chief minister said that all genuine Indian citizens whose names are left out from the list would get time to file claims and objections.
