Centre Asks Tripura to Prioritize on Farmers’ Issue

Pratidin Bureau

The Centre on Saturday asked the Tripura Government to set priority on implementation of three key schemes- Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-Kishan), PM Kishan pension scheme for small and marginal farmers and cover all the farmers with Kishan Credit Card (KCC).

Tripurastate Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Pranajit Singha Roy said thatthe Centre has asked to implement the schemes immediately.

Roy said that this is for the first time that Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare minister Narendra Singh Tomar assured the state governments during video conference held two days ago that the Centre will hold meeting with the commercial banks for time bound disposal of the credit request of the farmers.

He furthersaid that it is found that farmers having KCC after applying for loan have notbeen given the response by the banks most of the time and even if they responseit's too late. As a result of which farmers could not produce as much theyexpected. The centre is now planning to provide debit card against each KCC andissued mandatory compliance for the banks to disburse the credit within 15 daysafter receiving proper application and farmers need not go to bank forwithdrawing money. The farmers can now pulled out the money from anywhere byusing the debit card.

Roy alsostated that PM-Kisan, which started in December last year so far has creditedamount of Rs. 60.43crore in two installments to 1.51lakh farmers out of thetotal 4.72lakh in the state.
