CAB in BJP Manifesto : Anti-CAB leaders raise voice

Pratidin Bureau

The BJP on Monday released its manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls, with issues of Ram mandir, Citizenship Bill, nationalism, terror and simultaneous elections among its key promises.

The entire Northeast region has been in great disturbance and confusion with the passing of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in Lok Sabha, while the ruling BJP is committed to pass the Bill in Rajya Sabha.

The decision of passing CAB in Rajya Sabha again led to revolt in the state. AASU chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya alleged that the BJP has betrayed the indigenous communities in Assam.

The BJP government came to power promising to protect 'Jati', 'Mati', and 'Bheti'. But after coming to power, the party has betrayed the people of Assam.

"BJP doesn't have the right to take credit for Assam NRC updating process" Bhattacharya was quoted as saying.

KMSS Chief Akhil Gogoi in a straight line urged the voters in the state to boycott BJP and its partners.

"The contentious Citizenship Bill still remains an issue of Assam and the northeast. If the BJP comes back to power again, would revive the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. It's up to you (the people of Assam), whether they support BJP or not." : Akhil added.
