BJP starts helicopter campaigns

Pratidin Bureau

All the political parties have been gearing up for the coming Lok Sabha polls. The political parties are trying to woo voters for the Lok Sabha election by taking helicopter rides to various public meetings in Assam as well.

The BJP in Assam has kick started its high-budget helicopter campaign for the polls on Monday. Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday morning left Guwahati in a private helicopter for Lakhimpur to take part in filing of nomination by BJP candidate Pradan Barua. Apart from Sonowal and Sarma, Assam BJP president Ranjeet Dass along with Minister Pijush Hazarika also left Guwahati in another private helicopter for election campaign in other parts of the State.

Like in the past elections, political parties go in for helicopter campaigns by paying huge amounts to private helicopter firms. The saffron party has used four helicopters on Monday and the numbers could increase in the coming days. The helicopters used by the party reportedly costs Rs. 70,000 per hour.

Besides BJP, the Assam Congress may also hire one or two helicopters for its senior party leaders including former CM Tarun Gogoi for the Lok Sabha elections campaign. On the other hand, regional party AGP is likely to use the BJP helicopters for its campaign.
