BJP Manifesto and NE: A look at the promises

The BJP has released its manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections on Monday at an event in its HQ in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party chief Amit Shah and senior party leaders like Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley were present at the launch event.

Apart from the promise to pass the Citizenship Amendment Bill, the BJP also promised to take steps to protect the linguistic, cultural and social identity of the Northeastern States. Its manifesto read, "We are committed to ensure that the unique linguistic, cultural and social identity of the Northeastern States is adequately protected and take steps to ensure the same."

Besides, the party also said that it will take effective steps to prevent illegal immigration in the Northeastern states.

The party also said that they will focus on infrastructure development and improved connectivity in the NE region. It also said that if voted to power, the party will take steps to ensure development of the hydro-electric, tourism, horticulture sectors in the region.

To ensure accelerated development of the Northeastern States, the party will leverage the security situation in these States, said its manifesto.
