BIG DAM: APW moves SC over NGT order

The AssamPublic Works (APW) on Tuesday informed that it would move the Supreme Court ofIndia challenging the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order that removed alllegal hurdles over Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Power Project (LSHEP).

TheAPW proposed that the dam should be constructed in Run-of-the-river or (ROR)system and the organisation will appeal the Supreme Court regarding the same."The 2000 MW project will destroy environment and civilization," said SeniorCitizen Pradip Bhuyan.

Itmay be mentioned here that the NGT on July 31 upheld the technical committee,which was set up by the Centre who had reviewed the fundamental of the damfollowing the massive protest by riparian people.

Thework for the 2000 MW LSHEP had been halted for last several years followingagitation raised against the dam by several organisations including APW, KMSSand AASU.
