Power Minister Tapan Gogoi on Friday informed that overhead power lines will soon be replaced by the much advanced Aerial bundled (AB) cables. The minister made the announcement during the ongoing session at the Assam Legislative Assembly.
He informed that the decision has been taken following the increasing number of deaths by electrocution cases in the state which has grown to 883 in the last 12 years.
The minister informed that Assam presently has an electric power line of around 60,000 kms across the state and the whole electric wires will be upgraded to the AB cables, which are safer in compared to the ones used presently.
Slamming the previous Congress government in the state, Gogoi said that the wires used were of low quality which has led to the increase of electrocution cases in Assam.
The government has already proposed an investment of over Rs 4,000 crore for the process.
