Assam woman allegedly thrashed by Gurugram police

TheNational Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday sent a notice to theGurugram Police Commissoner for allegedly detaining a woman, who hails fromAssam, and stripping and thrashing her by police personnel. The victim wasworking as a domestic help in Gurugram and was picked up by the police inconnection to a theft.

Itmay be mentioned here that the incident came to light when some North-Eastorganisations got to know of her ordeal and they protested in front of thepolice station demanding action against the erring police personnel.

TheNHRC said that the Gurugram police chief has initiated a departmental probeinto the incident and sent four police personnel including the SHO to thepolice line. The NHRC has issued a notice to the Gurgaon police commissioner,seeking a detailed report, along with action taken against the guilty policepersonnel, in four weeks.

Accordingto reports, the woman was working as a domestic help in a house located in DLFPhase -I in Gurugram.
