Assam Teacher cooks beef in school kitchen, arrested

Pratidin Bureau

Police on Tuesday arrested a teacher in Assam's Lower Darrang district for allegedly allowing to cook beef in the school kitchen as part of the mid day meal for students.

The accused, identified as Nasiruddin Ahmed, is the head teacher of Dakhin Duliapara Lower Primary School in the minority-dominated Dalgaon area of the district.

Ahmed was arrested following an FIR lodged by district elementary education officer (DEEO) accusing the teacher of trying to promote enmity between different groups on grounds of religion intended to outrage religious feelings.

"He has been put under suspension by the district elementary education office with immediate effect for violating school norms, as well as social ethics, willfully," Darrang DEEO J Tabassum said while speaking to TOI.

The DEEO has also called for an internal enquiry into the matter.
