Former Director-General of Police (DGP) of Assam Harekrishna Deka hits back at state finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as the latter alleged that Deka was involved in secret killings.
Himanta, while speaking at a BJP party meeting on Monday allegedthat the secret killings took place in Assam when Deka was at the helm ofaffairs in Assam Police.
Replying to Himanta's allegation, the former DGP refuted thecharges and categorically reminded Himanta to go through the files of the homedepartment to get his facts right.
Deka further asserted that during the time when secret killingstook place in the state, he was on deputation with the Railway department.
Deka said, "I had joined as the ADGP of special branch of AssamPolice, when the episode of secret killing was over. I served as DGP during thetenure of Prafulla Kumar Mahanta who was then the chief minister just for fewmonths before the Assembly elections."
The former DGP further stated that his stint as DGP was mostlyduring the tenure of Tarun Gogoi and during that period, Sarma also held animportant portfolio of the Assam Ministry adding that if any incident of secretkilling took place during that period, then Himanta must also takeresponsibility for that. However, no such incident took place during Gogoi'stenure, said Deka.
Deka said, "Himanta has made such baseless remarks for hisvested interest and trying to malign my image. I warn him not to make suchbaseless remarks and irresponsible comments in future."
Deka also countered Himanta in a social media post, that he alsoalong with other officials are 'aware' of several activities of Himanta fromthe past.
The former DGP also accused Himanta of maintaining doublestandards.
