Assam lost Rs. 1000 crore in floods

AssamMinister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday evening said that the State hassuffered a loss of Rs. 1000 crore in the recent devastating flood. The Ministeralso said that the PWD has undergone the highest lost during the deluge thathit around 30 districts of the State.

Hemade the statement after chairing a high-level review meeting of the floodsituation in the State. Speaking to media, Sarma further said that theembankments will be repaired at the earliest.

"We will earmark sufficient budget to take up Permanent Restoration of the embankments, reconstruction of roads, culverts, public health centres, irrigation canals, water supply schemes etc. to ensure that they are flood-proof and do not get impacted in future," Himanta tweeted after the meeting.

Ministers Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta, Parimal Suklabaidya and Bhabesh Kalita were also present in the meeting.

Itmay be mentioned here that at least 70 people have lost their lives in the recentfloods in Assam.
