Assam Flood situation worsening

Pratidin Bureau

Flood situation in Assam is worsening and showing no signs of respite. 25 districts of the state are now reeling under the terror of the devastating floods.

Raising serious concerns, the Brahmaputra River is flowing over the danger level at 50.76 cm till last measured at 7 AM. According to reports, it is increasing at a rate of 2 cm per hour.

In Lakhimpur, the Subansiri River is also flowing over the danger level. Ferry services have been completely suspended. As rains continue, water level is feared to rise further.

Consequently, with water rising at an alarming rate, Bokakhat and Kaziranga flood condition is deteriorating rapidly. The water is now flowing over the NH 37, which passes through the Kaziranga National Park, disrupting communication completely. As per reports, water is overflowing from six places of the highway and the water level continues to rise with every passing minute.

Several vehicles moving on the highway developed technical snags and have been forced to stop. If the water level continues to rise on the highway, then very soon there would be a breach in communication between Upper and Lower Assam.

Meanwhile, the movement of vehicles in the highway has been restricted from Sunday night.

Likewise, in Bongaigaon's Abhayapuri, flood waters are wreaking havoc on the NH 31 jeopardizing lives of those commuting through that part of the region. Locals have come forward to ensure vehicles pass through the highway without any peril.

Aai River in Chirang has also taken a scary form devastating anything that comes on its way. Houses having gutted people are now moving to relief camps.

In Nalbari, flood is engulfing more and more areas as water level is rising due to continuous rains.

Rescue operations are still underway in the flood affected districts of the state.
